Santa Trains are running as scheduled today. Please drive carefully.
Power off 6th Dec
Our power will be off on Wednesday 6th December due to maintenance by the power company. We will be open but while the power is off there will obviously be no hot food or hot drinks. We also wont be able to open the museum without lighting.
New Ironworks display
We have a brand new display all about the Apedale Iron Works, courtesy of Tomas Starkey and Bobby Tasker of Madley High School. It was done as part of their Bronze level Duke of Edinburgh award and we think that they’ve done a fantastic job. The display has been very well researched and presented, covering the history of iron working in Apedale, the process and how it fits in to the big picture. We all hope that you enjoy the latest addition to the museum.
Summer Mine Tours
Through August we are offering mine tours on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. The museum will be open too, and the café is open everyday.
Closed on 26th-27th July
We will be having some work done on our main electricity supply on the 26th and 27th July, and so will be closed for those two days. Apologies for any inconvenience while we carry out this vital maintenance.
2017 TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence
We’ve won a 2017 certificate of excellence from TripAdvisor. A big thanks to everyone who’s reviewed us, maybe we can make the hat-trick in 2018!
Mining Gala and the Co-op
A bit of a dual announcement today – firstly we are now one of the causes being supported by the Co-op’s Local Community Fund.
The second part is that the specific project being funded is the 2017 Mining Gala! Yes, the mining gala returns, with music, exhibitors and much more.
Co-op members can help by selecting us as their nominated cause on the membership page. https://membership.coop.co.uk/causes/11187. 1% of what is spent on co-op goods is donated, if no cause is selected it gets split between all the causes.
If you aren’t a member it’s easy to join for just £1 and as well as the 1% that goes to causes you get 5% rewards on co-op goods and services.
More information of the gala can be found here :- https://www.apedale.co.uk/gala/
Next Extended Tours
Our next extended tours will be held on the 25th March and the 29th April. Visit our Delve Deeper! page for more information.
Winter Half Term 2017
It’s nearly half-term again and we’re going to be able to run mine tours on Monday 20th, Tuesday 21st and Wednesday 22nd February. The museum will be open as well, so its just the thing thing to keep the little cherubs occupied!
The extended tour that we are running on the 18th is now fully booked, we’ve had a great response. We’ll announce further dates as we arrange them.
Extended Tours
Some exciting news.. On February 18th we will be running extended mine tours to parts of the mine not previously open to the public. This a bit more of a demanding tour so we have a lower age limit on 14 and you need to be reasonably fit, some parts are a bit steep. Leave the Jimmy Choos at home, as you’ll need sturdy footwear and clothes that you don’t mind getting the off splash of mud on!
