British Empire Medal recipient’s certificate presented to museum

Lucy Burrell (10) presents a certificate awarded to her Great-great-great Grandad, George Wilshaw to the Heritage Centre. The certificate commemorates his receiving the British Empire Medal for services to mining in 1949. George had worked underground for 71 years, starting at Norton Colliery in 1877. The certificate and other documents are now on display in our museum along with another BEM recipient, Albert Rowley. So come along to find out more.
