DESCRIPTION:From 4pm on Saturday 28 & Sunday 29 October\, the railway will run thier Spooky Specials. It’s a fun outing\, suitable for all ages – aiming to amuse rather than terrify. Steam trains will run at frequent intervals\, finishing at with the last train at 8pm. There’s no need to book in advance\, just turn up. Wrap up warm and bring a torch – it’s dark in the carparking area. DESCRIPTION:The AVLR’s annual railway gala; frequent service of steam trains plus demonstration trains on the field railway. The loco shed will be open for visits\, and the WW1 Trench will be welcoming visitors. \nTeh gala will feature a unique vertical boiler locomotive “Taffy”. Owned by Patrick Keef\, this unusual loco will be making its first visit to Apedale. It will join the expected line-up of the home fleet – “Stanhope”\, Hudswell Clarke 1238\, “Ogwen”\, Orenstein 5662\, and Hunslet 1215 – providing a varied operation with the six steam locos plus a supporting cast of Internal Combustion marvels. \nFares will be £8 adults\, £4 children\, £18 family. Tickets include general site admission\, including access to the main shed (where there will be stalls and refreshments)\, the WW1 Trench and the Field Railway. Extra train tickets can be bought at standard fares.

DESCRIPTION:As the name suggests\, this is the weekend when pretty much anything mechanical is unleashed on the Apedale site. Trains will be hauled by a mixture of steam locos and some of our huge collection of internal combustion machines. The event field will be full of stationary engines\, old vehicles\, pretty much anything mechanical. If you have an old machine which you’d like to bring along – we’d be delighted to see you. Download the event entry form here. \nTrains will run from 1130 to 4pm on each day\, and standard train fares are charged. There is no fee for train ticket holders to visit the event field area.

SUMMARY:AVLR: Military Trains Weekend
DESCRIPTION:The Apedale Valley Light Railway boasts the UK’s premier collection of railway equipment from the First World War\, and this weekend is the opportunity to see it at work. WW1-era locos will haul passenger trains. Freight trains will see both ww1-era and military trains from later years demonstrated. Visitors can also tour our replica Trench\, and learn a little more about the experiences of soldiers during the Great War. \nStandard fares will be charged for this event. We welcome potential exhibitors\, and an exhibit entry form may be downloaded here. Passenger trains will run from 1130 to 4pm on all days. DESCRIPTION:Organised by the PMT Preservation Group ( see here)\, Apedale will host a wide variety of preserved buses and other historic vehicles. Historic buses will run a service from the Apedale site to the main bus station in Newcastle-under-Lyme on a regular basis through the day.  There will also be a morning trip from Stoke station\, and an afternoon return. A timetable for these buses is available here. If you are interested in bringing a vehicle\, please download the entry form here. The railway will run steam trains from 1130 to 4pm\, and standard fares will be charged.

DESCRIPTION:This year we welcome back the Apedale Spooky Specials. From 4pm on Saturday 29 & Sunday 30 October\, we will run our Spooky Specials. It’s a fun outing\, suitable for all ages – we aim to amuse rather than terrify. Our steam trains will run at frequent intervals\, finishing at with the last train at 7pm. There’s no need to book in advance\, just turn up. Adults £3.50\, children £1.50. We would advise that you wrap up warm and bring a torch – it’s dark in the carparking area.
