SUMMARY:AVLR: Penrhyn Steam-Up Day
DESCRIPTION:Sixty years ago\, on January 15 1965\, the last steam train operated within the vast Penrhyn slate quarries in North Wales. That last train was operated by Avonside loco “Ogwen” – and the driver wrote his name and the date inside the cab to mark this end of an era. \nSince then\, “Ogwen” has been to the USA and returned\, has been restored back to steam and now lives at Apedale – but the inscription in the cab remains! \nTo mark this anniversary\, two ex-Penrhyn locos will operate – “Ogwen” and “Stanhope” with a selection of suitable slate wagons. This will be a very informal day; no passenger trains will operate\, and admission will be by donation. Trains will run from around 1200. All being well- and subject to the weather – a night photo shoot will be arranged later in the day. \nNote that the advert in January “Narrow Gauge World” magazine contains an incorrect date for this event. \nPlease note that this event is run by the Apedale Valley Light Railway.  For info see www.avlr.org.uk or e-mail info@avlr.org.uk

DESCRIPTION:From 4pm on Saturday 26 & Sunday 27 October\, the railway will run thier Spooky Specials. It’s a fun outing\, suitable for all ages – aiming to amuse rather than terrify. Steam trains will run at frequent intervals\, finishing at with the last train at 8pm. There’s no need to book in advance\, just turn up. Wrap up warm and bring a torch – it’s dark in the carparking area. SUMMARY:AVLR: World War One loco running weekend
DESCRIPTION:2024 is the 110th anniversary of the start of World War One. To mark this\, the AVLR be using the War Office Locomotive Trust’s Hunslet loco\, built in 1916 on all trains . An opportunity to see a genuine war veteran at work!  Hopefully\, we’ll also be displaying some of our extensive collection of First World War military railway equipment\, and the Trench will be open for visitors. DESCRIPTION:Fancy joining the railway team? Would you like to know about volunteering at the Apedale Valley Light Railway? Wonder no more; April 15 is the date for your diary. This will be the day when you can along to Apedale and find out about becoming a member of the Moseley Railway Trust and helping run and maintain the railway and all the things which go with it. There will be tours and talks covering the following areas:\n\n\n• General membership\n• Shop work\n• Restoration/engineering\n• Railway operations\n• The WW1 Trench\n\n\nYou’ll be able to take a look behind the scenes\, and have a go (under supervision!) at jobs like driving locos and being a train Guard. There will also be a special reduced rate for those joining the Trust on the day.\n\n\nEvents will run from 1100 until 1500. If you are interested\, please register beforehand by sending an e-mail to operations@avlr.org.uk and saying what area of the Trust’s work you may be interested in.
