The AVLR 2012 season starts soon

One month to go before the start of the Apedale Valley Light Railway’s 2012 season which kicks off with a diesel service on 31st March. The following weekend is Easter, and to celebrate it, there will be an easter egg hunt organised by the fine folks of the AVLR. See http://www.avlr.org.uk/

British Empire Medal recipient’s certificate presented to museum

Lucy Burrell (10) presents a certificate awarded to her Great-great-great Grandad, George Wilshaw to the Heritage Centre. The certificate commemorates his receiving the British Empire Medal for services to mining in 1949. George had worked underground for 71 years, starting at Norton Colliery in 1877.
