No. 7 Drift Entrance Contruction

It's been less than a year since we managed to get through into No. 7 Drift mine in order to maintain it. Since then there has been a lot of progress underground, but recently the focus has been on the surface. We dug down to find the original entrance which was under a few meters of top soil. A section of tunnel for the entrance had been prefabricated which was then lowered into position and the hole back filled to form the entrance. More recent work has included adding a retaining wall for the earth around the entrance and the installation of a track to help transport material into and out of the mine.
