This bank holiday weekend, the Railway is running a Teddy Bears Outing event. Kids can go free as long as they bring along a teddy bear (other similar stuffed toys are OK too!). Adults are welcome to bring along their Teddys too although I’m afraid that doesn’t qualify them for the offer! In the museum […]
A while ago the railway chaps asked if they could swap out the Motor Rail loco that’s been part of their display in the museum for many a good year, as they wanted to use it as part of the tracks to trenches event this year (http://www.wdlr.org.uk/). The little petrol engined loco was built for […]
Our heating system is finally up and running, a little later than we’d hoped but better late than never. Since it’s still a little nippy out we certainly felt the benefit today! The system heats the café area, and uses a ground source heat pump, installed by local company Retherm. Ground source heat pumps extract […]
For the second week of Easter we’ll be opening the museum and running mine tours on Easter Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Check back here to see if we can do any later in the week! Also Genesis will be demonstrating his smithing skills in the Forge on Easter Monday. The railway will be running on […]
The results of our Easter raffle are:- Ticket 746 wins the 1st prize, the Large Chocolate Egg and Ticket 661 wins 2nd prize, the cake in the shape of a miner!
Last chance to enter our Easter raffle in our Café, which will be drawn on Sunday. The first prize is a big Thornton chocolate Egg and the second prize is a fantastic looking cake in the shape of a miner baked by the wife of one of our mine volunteers.
We’re happy to announce that the Loomer Road gates should be open from tomorrow, Wednesday 16th, as the travellers camp has moved on. So it’s all system go for the Easter Weekend!
As well as steam trains and the Easter egg hunt, run by the AVLR and our usual mine tours and museum, we’ll be joined on site by Genesis Rowley. Genesis will be demonstrating his blacksmithing skills in our forge and will be generally hitting lumps of hot metal with hammers. What’s not to like? He’ll […]
Despite our access problems (see earlier posts) we’re not letting that stop us having Easter fun. Today (Monday 14th April), Tomorrow (15th) and Wednesday (16th) we will be running mine tours and the museum will be open. We may be announcing more weekdays soon, so do stay tuned! Either way our café will be open […]
Our mine guides have asked that we put the word out, to see if there is anyone who would like to join their merry band. They also said something about wanting to “see the sunlight occasionally”, and added “Please let us out”. So if you think you have what it takes to be a mine […]
